SEO has many possible futures

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has many possible futures. There is nothing written in stone and time always has a way of unfolding events in ways we may not foresee. Search Engine Optimization is no different.

Currently Google and its page ranking system is the holy grail when it comes to your site’s rankings. There is a constant battle between companies to get the top spots. One method is to buy links on blogs or sites. Google has come to frown on this and has taken actions that include but may not be limited to reducing the Page Rank of both the advertising company and the blogger willing to do the advertisement.

So what options does the advertiser and the blogger have?

I think all of this will change in the near future. In what direction it will take is anyone’s guess but there are other companies doing a lot of work in this area trying to be the first to market with an answer to Google’s page rank. Until that happens I think the best option is for the advertiser to consider the link only option.

Instead of purchasing an article advertisement in which one or two links are required by the blogger I suggest selecting the blogs or sites you wish a linking program with and then deal directly with the webmaster or site owner when purchasing your link.

Now I realize the average company does not have the time nor care to do the work of looking at blogs all day in order to find the ones they wish to purchase links on. In this case you would try to find a middle man. There are many businesses out there that make a market in SEO Linking, Text Ads and just about any other type of advertising a company might want. But for better protection for both parties I think you would need to find a company that does not make anything public.

Some SEO marketing companies have a website in which everything is fairly easy for anyone to view. The blogger submits his website and the advertiser makes his choice from them. This seems a little flawed to me in that any search engine would be able to see this too and eventually the blogger profile may even find its way to the search engine pages. Tracking a link from a blogger who has advertised to your site may not be in anyone’s interest.

Therefore if you’re the advertiser, deal with a company who will place your link for you from their “unpublicized” data base. For example the blogger registers with them providing the details of his blog and the advertiser request is matched up. Once price has been agreed on the link is paid and the blogger is paid via the third party.

While this may not be the permanent solution, it does sound like a viable one for the current situation.
